Summary:
The Ophthalmic Technician will provide clinical assistance within a team setting to a Supervising Retina Physician/Surgeon.
This position requires a good understanding of an ophthalmic practice, patient care, and the flow of clinical activities.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Efficiently and accurately interview patients and document histories in the electronic medical record Perform technical workups, patient interviews and special testing Communicate with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in the schedule, symptoms, surgery scheduling, clinical trials, etc.
Return phone calls to patients and pharmacies.
Includes e-scribing to pharmacies Maintain and clean all equipment being used, and reports to supervisor if equipment is not in working condition Demonstrate working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications Understand characteristics of common retinal disorders and conditions Utilize proper eye drop technique and sterility Understand and use proper sterile techniques Utilize proper universal precaution procedures Accurately perform:
Tonometry, Visual Field Exam, Amsler's Grid Screening, Muscle Testing, Pupil Exams, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), and Fluorescein Angiograph (FA) Must be willing and able to travel to satellite clinics Education/
Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent required Previous experience or training in this or a similar position preferred Technical

Responsibilities:
- Perform preliminary eye examinations and tests on patients - Obtain and record patient medical history and chief complaint - Administer eye drops and medications as directed by the ophthalmologist - Conduct diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, tonometry, and lensometry - Assist with contact lens fittings and teach patients how to insert, remove, and care for their lenses - Prepare examination rooms and sterilize instruments - Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in the electronic medical record system (Epic) - Provide patient education on eye health, contact lens care, and post-operative instructions - Assist with minor surgical procedures under the supervision of the ophthalmologist Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent - Previous experience as an ophthalmic technician or in a related field preferred - Knowledge of ophthalmic equipment and procedures - Familiarity with medical billing and coding processes - Understanding of basic anatomy and physiology related to the eye - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment - Strong attention to detail and accuracy - Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality - Retail sales experience is a plus, especially in an optical setting We offer competitive pay based on experience, as well as benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plans.
